Small Players Cider is the crafty invention of Bec and Tim Duffy, who also run Holm Oak Vineyards. The idea behind Small Players was simple; the two already like drinking cider, so why not try to make it? The fact that Bec’s a winemaker and Tim’s a viticulturist didn’t hurt much either.
While Bec and Tim have developed a reputation as one of Tasmania’s finest winemakers, they only only dabble in cider-making – hence the unassuming “Small Players” name. The pair source their apples from local growers, then craft the fruit into several different ciders. Small Players’ limited-release vintage cider, made from Strurmer Pippin apples, is a highlight, but it also a makes a dry, bottled-fermented cider, along with a sweet cider and a Perry.
And despite the name, Small Players is only going to get bigger – especially considering Bec and Tim have recently planted several varieties of old cider apple trees on their vineyard.
